Drowning in a sea of light: The Present.

destinationkeys:

The words were like shards to his heart. Sora blinked and stared a bit blankly at the red head. Was she joking? She had to be… right? These among other questions swirled around in his already disorganized mind. In the confusion, the brunette had hardly noticed Riku whom Kairi had previously Ran into. Sora shook his head a bit, finding himself at a loss of words. While heart continued to assure him that Kairi was joking as she always often used to, his mind, and the girl’s face spoke a clear and sinking truth. She had… forgotten them.

Sora looked a bit towards the snow haired teen as he picked himself up for some sort of reassurance as panic was settling into his mind. Maybe Riku was in on this joke as well, maybe he’d stand up and they’d both laugh at the look on his face and than he’d start laughing too… or maybe, judging by the look on Riku’s face as well… he was just as confused about the situation as he was.
The brunette turned his attention back towards Kairi, his bright blue eyes saddened as he searched his mind for some sort of reply, feeling a large lump lodging itself in his throat.

“Heh….. you…. Dont remember us..?”  What else could he say?

No, I don’t. The words felt like knifes as she swallowed them back in, leaving a vile aftertaste in her mouth. Horrible, horrible black words. Kairi didn’t dare to present them to the disheartened boy. The redhead held her ground despite the urge to fling her arms around the brunette, to apologize repeatedly until she ran out of breath, to take back the truth and smother him with lies, to make the grief so painstakingly apparent in his eyes to go away. But she stayed rigid like stone. Because what else could she do? She didn’t know him or the silver-haired boy. And yet, at the same time, something in her told her otherwise.

Were the images that burned through her eyelids at night real? Could she trust them? Her mind screamed in retaliation. It couldn’t be true—she had stayed in the mayor’s house all her life. Kairi bit her lower lip. But why did she stay in there? Didn’t she love to explore and cause chaos? Didn’t she yearn for adventure and friends? Did something happen? Or… the girl closed her eyes to cast away the tears that were threating to stream down. Or… did she forget something incredibly important? The girl stared at the brunette, then at the other boy. They felt important.

“I’m sorry,” she finally whispered as she glared at her feet. She couldn’t bear to see either boy’s faces. The shock. The anguish. And she was the cause of it. “I really don’t remember.”

#Sorry for being late!

The Present.

destinationkeys:

memoriesofkairi:

Oh no. They got out. Kairi could feel the air cool by their presence. She began to sprint. Dark thoughts were charging behind her and yet the fast and heartrending pace had no effect on their scathing whispers. Words tainted the air, making it harder to breath, harder to run. What happened yesterday? What happened the day before that? What happened three, four days from today?  Doubt was quick, much quicker than her and soon enough it seep into her. Its murky presence evoked tears that blurred her vision, clawed at her stubbornness, pulled her down almost to her knees. A confession was dragged out of her.

“I don’t kn—“

That was all she could say before she collided with someone. Both fell to the floor and at the impact, Kairi was released from the unwanted thoughts for instead, what filled her mind was dread and embarrassment. Her first time to leave her dorm in so long and she was already causing trouble.

“K..Kairi?”

The girl froze at the sound of her name. The voice… it felt so comforting. Like she has known it for years, her whole life even. But the face… the silver hair, the turquoise eyes. At the very sight of them the redhead’s surrounding began to melt away, giving way to snippets of the ocean waves, the golden sand, and two children. Silver and brown. Her heart thundered, breathing in short bursts. Everything felt familiar but that was all. Nothing looked familiar.

Light and repeated pokes on her cheek brought Kairi back and finally realizing she was sprawled on top of the boy, she scrambled to her feet. All the while, old habits kicked in, allowing lies to form like bubbles of boiling water. Act like you completely remember who he is. Be cheerful and avoid the topic of his name. Kairi offered her hand to the boy and blurted out something that she never even fathomed to voice out: “You seem familiar but sorry, who are you again?”

The brunette had found himself alone that day, utterly alone. The school grounds and halls were more or less vacant, leaving a dreadfully dejected sensation run down his spine. His eyes barely took note of the occasional student or two as the strolled about, some hurrying to the class they were already late to. Math for some reason or another simply did not seem important enough to attend, so not showing up seemed like a good idea. After all, one day couldn’t possibly make that much of a difference now could it?

Sora wandered aimlessly, moving from hall to hall, and soon had become lost in the process. His mind had been running in circles, one thought after the other plagued him, haunted him… spoke to him. “it’s not that bad…” He would mutter one minute.
“Heh, of course it is…” Sora muttered the next minute. Incoherent thoughts stabbed his mind and he almost felt as if he was drifting in and out of reality. When had been the last time he took his medicine? It must have been at least six hours ago. His head was pounding, where was he?  The hallways stretched and the walls were laughing at him.
“stop it… stop it..” He would mutter as tried his best to shake the thoughts from his mind. It was only then did the blur of red catch his attention. Sora rubbed his bright blue eyes a bit, his vision seemed a bit distorted as he could not quite make the blur out. Yet as it approached did it become clearer. It couldnt be…. could it? Kairi? Was it really Kairi??
After the girl was close enough was he sure it was her. Although the pounding headache remained, a smile curved over his lips and excitement took over. It had known his long time friend would be attending the school as well, finding her was the problem.
“Kairi!” He called out as she had run past.

Another voice. Her heart seized the girl and drowned her in their thunderous beats. It was another voice that felt familiar. Chest tightened, palms sweated. Trying to keep her mind preoccupied, Kairi pulled the silver-haired boy to his feet but it was not enough. Images cleaved the dam and flooded her once again. The beach. The sand. The two boys. The silver-haired boy chased the brunette. The air was heavily laden with laughter. And the laughter… it was composed of three distinct voice. Two boys, one girl. The boys turned. Their faces were now exposed. Blue eyes. Wide smiles. They called out—

Kairi gasped for fresh air. It was too much. Why were they resurfacing? Weren’t they mere imaginations she concocted to pass the idle time back then? How can these people, the boy in front of her and the new voice, both so incredibly real, evoke such things? Such fake things. The redhead braced herself and turned, anticipating to who the new voice belonged to.

It was like the imagined memories had merged with reality. Before her, although obviously older, was the brunette. Kairi glanced from the new boy to the one she had collided with and back. They knew her but she didn’t know them. More lies were filling every crevice in her; her tongue itched to voice them out, to get rid of them. Laugh it off, Kairi, she instructed. Say “what is up” as always. Give them a fist bump as always. Just make sure to avoid the topic of names.

Her throat were filled with vile thoughts but the girl couldn’t say them. They stayed, stuck and silenced. She looked at the boys again. Her first instinct was right. They did not look familiar and yet… lungs tightened while her stomach churned. But the redhead’s lips were stretched out into a wide grin. The feeling of familiarity was there, reassuring her that the boys were important. How and why, she just had no idea.

“Yo,” she said to the brunette. The lies stayed dormant, giving way to innocent truth. “I’m sorry. Just like I was telling the other guy, I can’t seem to remember where we have met before. Who are you again?”

Just a casual stroll down the hall

joshua-dearest:

Joshua hummed slightly as he thought about this Mysterious Tower off in the distance. It looked…decrepit? Broken down? Abandoned. That was the word. It looked abandoned. Not that the other words didn’t describe it as well, but abandoned seem to do it justice. Joshua’s mind could only wonder what mysteries lay beyond its doors. His mind was running wild with images of ghosts, moving bookcases, trapdoors, and many other things that Joshua thought might be hiding within the house. Joshua’s eyes glazed over for a moment as he continued to think, his mind was a flurry of pictures and colors. Everything from vampires to secret treasure, Joshua was imagining inside that Tower. His thoughts reigned themselves in from their mad dash through wonderland and he blinked a few times, taking a moment to realize where he was.

Joshua looked around before finding Kairi. Had she just suggested they go inside? Joshua had to keep his thoughts from running off again so he could reply to her. He desperately wanted to go exploring inside that Tower. He wondered if Kairi would be up for going right now. “Do you think we could go now?” Joshua asked, a bright, hopeful glint in his eyes. “No time like the present, right?” His words were a bit rushed as they flew off his tongue.

Kairi giggled and nodded earnestly. With a tilt of the head, she motioned for Joshua to follow as she scrambled back to solid ground. “It’s this way, Mister Joshua,” she called out.

The tower was a good distance apart from the Hundred Acre Wood, Sanctuary Institute, or anything else really. A clear pathway was absent; only the misshapen silhouette guided the way while feet had to tread over a thin blanket of snow. The cold was slowly crawling up Kairi’s legs, once more reminding her that being outside during such a day was not one of her best ideas and yet the girl was in high spirits. The very notion of exploring, of adventure, always had a profound effect on her. The many possibilities and outcomes fed her imagination. It was enthralling.

Soon enough, the two found themselves standing at the foot of the tower. Walls had long been stripped of paint, the exposed wood looked especially unstable and frail. Windows were barred while the remaining intact glasses were murky with dust. Holes of several sizes and shapes were everywhere that it amazed Kairi how the structure could even stand at all as the entire tower itself seemed to be leaning on its side as if favoring a leg. Just by looking at it, the Mysterious Tower was aptly named. The redhead turned to Joshua, a wide grin stretched across her face. She was, quite obviously, giddy with excitement.

“Want to go in now? Perhaps we’ll see ghosts or a vampire or—“ Kairi blushed. “I mean… do you think ghosts and vampires are real?”

The Present.

destinybonded:

Day, Night, it barely mattered anymore, everything was blurred, and the fading. Each day the impending darkness grew more and more. The vitamin A shots weren’t working and neither were the medications. Riku was going blind and there was hardly a thing anyone could do about it. So why try anymore? If everything was damaging why be careful? The only fear riku had was of the impending surgery his damn doctor was suggesting. A cataracts removal, in which they would remove his natural lens and replace it with an artificial one. Riku didn’t want to go through with it, call him vain but how could he be okay with letting someone butcher his eyes?

Having left his room with the stupid pamphlets and his stupid counselor’s letter of ‘if you need someone to talk too’, Riku wandered down the hall before settling for sitting on a wide window ledge with the window open. With his damaged eyes closed, Riku sighed feeling the cool breeze on his face as his back pressed against the cold sill frame. Where was Sora when you needed him? he mused to himself as he brought his knees up to his chest. He was lonely and needed a familiar voice, since face was so to be inapplicable.

As he sat there for what seemed like ages, his highly tuned ears picked up the thundering sounds of footsteps. Someone was running towards him? Slowly slipping from his perch Riku took a few steps forward tilting his head in curiosity as whoever it was was quickly approaching. “hello?” Riku called  before suddenly getting the wind knocked out of him. There was a heavy weight on him and his back was cold on the waxed floor. There was a familiar scent of ocean breeze and fruitiness in his nostrils as it took riku a second to realize he’d been run over and she was currently on top of him.  ” K..kairi??”  Riku asked, well more like groaned as he reached out to poke her to make sure she was alright.

Oh no. They got out. Kairi could feel the air cool by their presence. She began to sprint. Dark thoughts were charging behind her and yet the fast and heartrending pace had no effect on their scathing whispers. Words tainted the air, making it harder to breath, harder to run. The Present.

Kairi peeked out of her dorm. Empty, endless, eerie. No was around to witness how the hallway let out a deafening silent scream at the sight of the redhead. The girl winced, ears felt like they were severed, the fresh air of the spacious hallways tasted like poison crawling down her throat. Immediately, Kairi retreated back into her room. Safe, silent, stagnant. Stiffing. Her body slumped down to the floor without her conscious knowledge.

What held her attention were her memories solidified into globes of water all organized in her mind’s shelf. The image before the girl spread, drowning out her bed, the desk, the clumps of clothes at the corner, the entire room. Knees to her chest, she watched idly while the stream of unorganized memories began to flood the area. The water tickled her toes, teased her shins, soaked her chest. Just how much memories has she not gone through? Fingers itched to take up a cup of water, to separate one recollection from the other… to cut, to edit, to delete, to add. Kairi shook her head vehemently.

“I don’t do those things,” she whispered. Her memories were genuine, real. Creating a makeshift family with Aqua, climbing trees with Joshua, rolling down the hill with Namine…

But those are from a week ago. The ugly thought reemerged and snaked around her throat, resting its mouth near her damaged ear. What happened yesterday, the day before that, three, four days ago?

Kairi whimpered, stood up abruptly, and stumbled outside. The questions and doubt were no longer around her shoulder. She looked back at the closed door. They were in there, waiting for her, all the while consumed with irritation. The girl backed away and ran down the hallway, no longer caring how the walls pricked her with glares. How dare she refuse to take medications, how dare she to run away. And yet she did just that.

Just a casual stroll down the hall

joshua-dearest:

Joshua giggled softly as he was pulled up to the tree and watched Kairi start to ascend. He continued to talk even as she climbed, his mood still bright and cheery. “You know this reminds me of my days as a kid. You know, back when the small park in the city wasn’t filled with hoodlums and trash everywhere you looked?” Joshua shrugged. “I used to come home with scrapes and bruises from running around all day in that park.” Joshua said with a small smile as he remembered the good old days.

He blinked quickly as Kairi beckoned to him and quickly scrambled up the tree fer her wasting no time in settling himself down onto the branch next to her. Joshua smiled over at her. Just like the good old days.

“Ah yes. The colors. I love colors, anything colorful.” Joshua grinned and followed with his eyes, to each thing Kairi pointed out. She was right, the colors were truly astounding. Not like the bright bustling city lights from back home. But they were more of a soft muted bunch of  colors, all layered in a thin blanket of snow. Joshua tilted his head as Kairi pointed out what she had called the “Mysterious Tower”. “Now what exactly is this Mysterious tower thing dear?” Joshua said, trying to get a better look by craning his neck slightly.

Sadly enough, the sun nor sky had nothing to offer but an overcast blanket of gray. Other than that, despite the light layers of snow and chilling wind, the view was spectacular as always. The school, white and majestic, blended in with the snow, rendering it almost invisible save for the lights that seemed to float in the air. In contrast was the Hundred Acre Wood that stuck out with their tall, swaying branches. Upon hearing Joshua’s question, Kairi shrugged while she looked on at the Mysterious Tower. Forlorn and slightly askew it emitted only dull shades of decaying gray and brown. It was, in other words, an interesting place that screamed of adventures to the redhead.

“It’s an abandon building. No one is allowed inside,” Kairi said. She then smirked. “I heard several students still went inside though. We can check it out sometime, if you want, Mister Joshua. It’ll be really groo—I mean cool.”
